This is a Ford Australia-built, Canadian Military Pattern 4x4 truck that has been built to take the British 2 Pounder ant-tank gun. The configuration is called portee, and the gun can be fired from the mounted position, or demounted and used conventionally. The advantage of the portee arrangement is that the gun can be carried ready to use, eliminating set-up time. It can also be withdrawn and relocated quickly. This is another of the vehicles on display at the excellent Australian Armour and Artillery Museum in Cairns.
